Describe your perfect morning routine in minute detail, from the moment you wake up to when you start your work.
7:00:00 – Alarm goes off.
7:00:01 – Hit snooze!
7:10:00 – Second alarm goes off. This time actually start to wake up.
7:15:00 – Quick check for any notifications from our web hosting system monitoring tools to see if there is any urgent issues that needs immediate attention. Generally there isn’t, and these notifications are just informational, but I always want to check that everything that should be online actually is!
7:20:00 – Get up and head downstairs. Pour and drink a pint of water. Check if the filter coffee machine is setup and scheduled to start. Normally for 8:00.
7:25:00 – Complete a few pushups (normally 20-30) and a plank (trying for 2 minutes, but normally nearer 1!).
7:29:00 – Connect earbuds and start audiobook. Currently listening to The Stoic Mindset by Mark Tuitert.
Note: If you live in Warwickshire, and probably other council areas too, you can sign up for the BorrowBox app via your local library. This is a free service and allows you to either listen directly, or reserve for future, a range of Audiobooks and e-books. Definitely worth checking out.
7:30:00 – Jump on the treadmill for a morning jog. My usual pace is 1 min walking (4km/h) then 4 mins running (8km/h), repeated for ideally ½ hour, but usually 25 mins!
I have only got into the habit of doing this exercise each morning over the last few years, and I must admit that I enjoy it not just from a general health point of view, but also the way that it gets the blood moving each morning ready to hit the day motivated.
8:00:00 – 20 mins recovery from the run, cooling down with another pint of water and checking up on Bluesky and Mastodon to see what I have missed.
8:20:00 – Quick shower and shave.
8:40:00 – Time for breakfast. A couple of Weetabix, cold milk and a sprinkling of unbleached sugar.
9:00:00 – Office opens and the business days begins. This is a matter of checking customer support tickets, updating current projects, and planning for the future. Maybe throw in a little marketing. And then checking the accounts side of things. Such is the life of a small business owner!
