Describe an item you were incredibly attached to as a child. What became of it?
Another day, another blog…. I have been wrecking my brain to think of something to fit this prompt, and nothing springs to mind that I was so attached to from childhood, but in our display cabinet we have a small marble polar bear that leads back to one of my earliest memories.
When I was around 3 years old, my Dad was working for a well-known instant coffee company and, as part of their technical team, was asked to spend around 6 months in Canada to help set up a new processing plant. Whilst he was there a family holiday was arranged for us to visit.
Now, being so young my memories are quite (very) patchy, but there are two things that do stick with me.
Firstly, in the suite we were staying, this was the first time my bother and I had come across an automatic reclining chair that was activated with a lever on the side. Well, for two young boys you can imagine the fun we had!

The end of the tunnel
The other memory that has stuck with me, is that we visited Niagara Falls. What trip to Canada would be complete without it!
The snapshot memory that I have is from the viewing gallery that is half way down the side of the falls. You have to reach this via an elevator that takes you down 125 feet and opens up to a corridor where all you can see at the end is the water rushing downward, with the air feeling damp from the mist and the noise of the gallons and gallons of water was just deafening.
So, from that holiday, the marble polar bear that was picked up as a souvenir is still with me, sat on the shelf to take me back every now and again.
